Belgisch hiv-cohortonderzoek

Het Belgische hiv-cohort werd in 2006 opgestart om een vollediger beeld te krijgen van de hiv-epidemie in België (met inbegrip van informatie over de uitkomsten voor de patiënten, naast het register van nieuwe hiv-gevallen). Het bestaat uit een prospectieve, multicentrische gegevensverzameling van alle twaalf hiv-referentiecentra (HRC) in België. Het doel van dit cohort is het verzamelen en delen van informatie over de kenmerken van de hiv-populatie die onder medische follow-up staat, en over de ontwikkeling van deze kenmerken. De implementatie van een dergelijk cohort zal hopelijk bijdragen aan een betere zorg voor mensen die leven met hiv/aids (PLWHA) in België. Meer specifiek zijn de doelstellingen van het cohort het schatten van het aantal hiv-patiënten in follow-up en hun demografisch profiel, het monitoren van uitkomsten in termen van overlijden en verlies aan follow-up, en het beoordelen van immunologische (CD4) en virologische (VL) veranderingen in de loop van de tijd, evenals de opname van antiretrovirale therapie (ART).

Population Coverage
From all the people in care for HIV in Belgium, around 80% are in care in one of the HIV Reference Centers (HRC). People who are in care outside an HRC but for who the viral load is monitored are included in the Belgian HIV Viral Load Surveillance.
Purposes

  • The objectives of the cohort are to estimate the number of HIV patients in follow-up and their demographic profile, to monitor outcomes in terms of death and lost to follow-up and to assess immunological (CD4) and virological (VL) changes over time, as well as antiretroviral therapy (ART) uptake.
