The Central Biobank Platform Sciensano provides support to the Sciensano Biobank modules (and their professional, medical managers). These Sciensano biobanks, defined with different aims and activities, are available to Sciensano internal as well as external scientists for registering human body material sample collections to be used in research studies. After registration, samples can be stored in a biobank, typically with donor informed consent, and made available for (re-)use in scientific research, approved by an ethics committee.

Dataset

Since October 2002, Sciensano’s Epidemiology of infectious diseases department has coordinated since the surveillance network PediSurv. Approximately 350 clinicians (pediatricians in Belgium and general practitioners in Brussels) participate voluntary in the network and collect monthly demographic, clinical and microbiological data from a series of severe and/or rare infectious diseases in children <15 years of age. This dataset is a register of mumps cases.

Dataset

A collection of data (lab analysis and surveys) from a Belgian cohort of staff and residents of nursing homes from the PICOV study. Data are about participants' immunity previous and after the winter period, on both winter period 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Respiratory infections were monitored during the 2 winter periods. Participants' survey with their health status is also available.

Dataset

A collection of data (lab analysis and surveys) from a Belgian cohort of healthy people working at five sites across Belgium of the ‘External Department of Prevention and Protection at work’ of Mensura. Data are about participants' immunity previous and after COVID-19 vaccination (dose 1 and 2) using mRNA COVID-19 vaccine BTB162b2. Redu-VAC is a randomised, multicenter, non-inferiority study investigating safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of a fractional dose of the vaccine (20µg versus 30µg). Adverse events linked to the vaccination are available.
